Point Defiance Zoo
The primary challenge we found working with the Tacoma Zoo team led by EHDD was the number of players. We had BCRA, a local firm out of Tacoma; Lyons Zaremba who were in charge of the user experience; Jones and Jones, the polar bear exhibit team out of Seattle; and EHDD, the overall project architect. In the first couple of hours of training, John realized that the diverse range of players needed a common language and clearly defined leadership. There is a tendency in teams of people who have never worked together to trip over one another and appear incohesive. Once the teams found organizational consensus, they had what it took to win.
Space Shuttle
This was one of the most exciting projects Bluedot helped win. The interview for the Space Shuttle Endeavor exhibit project at the California Science Center required the same wow factor the place itself was sure to produce. When we’re talking such a massive piece of American history, we cannot think small. The presentation needed to aspire to be as outstanding as the feat that is the shuttle and its missions. When John saw his client treating this like something ordinary, he challenged them to be extraordinary. They were, and we won.
Gateway complex for the College of Engineering and the Purdue Polytechnic Institute
Bluedot’s client had a long-standing relationship with Purdue, but were up against some of the largest firms in the world. This was a true David and Goliath story. We needed to make sure that BSA Lifestructures showed a side they hadn’t before. They needed to level-up and present with the best. They needed to stay tried-and-true while presenting something unique and new. With John’s help, they pulled it off as though it was the most natural thing they’ve done.
Siskiyou County Courthouse
Siskiyou County Courthouse posed a unique problem for our clients—how to resolve three separate barriers of access in a courthouse environment, specifically the judiciary, the public and defendents. These elements had to feel like a whole pie, not a slice. We found the challenge parallelled another familiar project type—aquariums, where fresh-water fish, salt-water fish and humans inhabit the space at once but in different ways. By combining what we knew about keeping separate but equal emphasis on each section we were able to help design a creative story and winning strategy.
