|||  Architect Interview Preparation – Time

Time is at a premium, and your work is beautiful, and…

Many of the architects we have surveyed in preparation for our workshops list “more time” as the thing they need most. More time to prepare their slides. More time to practice as a team.

Don’t get me wrong, time is vital in preparing for an interview with a potential client. One question to consider is “how should I spend my prep time?” It’s very easy to get caught up in the visuals. After all, that’s what you are trained to do best. It’s totally natural to focus on perfecting your slides to the last tiny detail. Adding more slides in order to explain a tangential aspect of your project is totally understandable. You hope that your audience will notice just how meticulous and thoughtful you are. Wowing them with beautiful designs and visual presentations is the order of the day.

Prepare yourself for the interview instead

What if, instead of spending 90% of your time creating the visuals for your presentations, reworking them over and over, you spent, say, half of your time on visuals and the other half preparing yourself – your energy, your body, your mind. What would happen if you focus on the parts that are most likely to create genuine, human connection?

Part of maturing as a presenter is getting to know yourself; really embracing your strengths; leading from those strengths; and practicing being who you are, not what you think your audience wants to see.

How can you lead from your strengths today?

That being said, there are definitely tricks and tips people like us at Bluedot can offer to support you in preparing physically and mentally for a presentation. Did you know we have a free training? Check that out here:

Presentation training is nuanced to be sure, but we do believe that the most important aspect is for you to get comfortable in your own skin. We know it’s easier said than done, and it’s a process. Bluedot is dedicated to showing you how.
